The development of the Private Forestry industry relies on policy from three levels of Government: Local, State and Federal Governments. At present the Federal Government have developed the Plantations for Australia 2020 Vision

The Queensland State Government has 3 sections involved with forestry - QFRI, DPI Forestry and DPI Policy & Analysis and Industry Development.

The Local Government Association Of Queensland (LGAQ) have commissioned a Private Forestry Model Planning Framework (PFMPF) that will allow Local Councils to include Private Forestry in their Planning Schemes.

Federal Government

• Agriculture Fisheries & Forestry (AFFA) - goal is to assist our forestry industry to grow, improve and capitalise on new opportunities while protecting the environment and contributing to the prosperity and quality of life in rural and regional Australia.

• Australian Greenhouse Office - The Australian Greenhouse Office (AGO) is the world's first government agency dedicated to cutting greenhouse gas emissions. It was established in 1998 as a separate agency within the environment portfolio to provide a whole of government approach to greenhouse matters.

• National Plantation Inventory -

• Australian Taxation Office - The ATO is the federal Government’s principal revenue collection agency. The ATO is part of the Treasurer’s portfolio.

• Department of Employment, Work Place Relations & Small business - The Commonwealth Department of Employment and Workplace Relations aims to support strong employment growth and the improved productive performance of enterprises in Australia. We do this by directing our energies towards achieving two interrelated Government outcomes that are relevant to all Australians: an efficient and equitable labour market that links people to jobs and promotes the transition from welfare to work, and fair and flexible workplace relations at the enterprise level.

• Forestry in Queensland - DNRM, EPA & DPI

• Queensland Forestry Research Institute (QFRI) - A commercial approach to plantation hardwoods research, addressing the whole research and development continuum.

• Queensland Department of Primary Industries - comprehensive quantitative information about the Queensland forest industry with a particular focus on its products and activities, economic significance and linkages to other industries, its importance to regional economies and snapshots of industry operations and structure.

Local Government

• Atherton Shire Council - Atherton Shire is situated on the Atherton Tableland 90kms south-west of Cairns. It ranges from 500m to 1280m above sea level and covers 620km². The shire is located on rich red volcanic soil.
