Environmental Groups
- Kuranda
Envirocare - Kuranda EniviroCare is a local branch of the Australia-wide
LandCare group, and is partly funded by the Australian government. We network
with other environmental groups across the Wet Tropics region, including
the Atherton Tablelands. We work cooperatively with the local Mareeba Shire
Council and all government departments with an interest in natural resources.
- Treat - TREAT is
a community based tree planting group operating mainly on the Atherton Tableland
in the Wet Tropics Region of far North Queensland.
- Landcare
- Landcare is a movement or network of people in Australia who are committed
to the more sustainable management and use of our natural resources. It
is led by the community, frequently people working together as landcare
groups, in partnership with government, community organisations, business
and others.
- Greening
Australia - The Bushcare web site provides information about the Bushcare
program and how it supports community involvement in the management, protection
and rehabilitation of Australia's native vegetation.
- Land
for Wildlife - Is a voluntary property registration scheme that encourages
landholders to manage their properties to include habitat for wildlife.

Biodiversity
- Australian
Biodiversity - Australia is one of the most biologically diverse countries
in the world, with a large portion of its species found nowhere else in
the world.
- Australia's
Biodiversity - Biodiversity is the variety of all living things; the
different plants, animals and micro organisms, the genetic information they
contain and the ecosystems they form.
- Research
Cluster Australian Biodiversity - This research cluster is developed
around a group of researchers who are focussed on understanding the diversity
and dynamics of the native biota of Australia.
Private Forestry has a huge potential to
be a sustainable industry that meets the "triple bottom line" of environmental,
social and economic sustainability. The issues that most urgently need to
be addressed are biodiversity, the commercialisation of environmental services
such as Carbon Credits
and the poor public perception of Forestry.
